State Regulatory Commission approves Fairbanks steam heat rate hikes

The 70 customers that get steam heat from Aurora Energy's downtown coal fired plant will be paying more. The Regulatory Commission of Alaska approved Auroras request for the hike, that will bring the cost of steam to 15 dollars per 1 thousand pounds. The rate hike amounts to 43 percent, and is on an interim basis. Aurora actually wants $20.45 per one thousand pounds of steam, but the Commission postponed a decision on that until July.
