Officials with the state of Alaska have begun a program that will digitize public records.
Pre-statehood family history and public records will be digitized in the 4 year program.
Alaska State Archives including births, marriage applications, divorce, and others records will be included in the digitization.
The work is being done through Family Search, a Salt Lake City service.
Family Search has more than 6 billion names in its data bases; no state funds were used to launch the project.
