Sports for the weekend

FAIRBANKS-The Ice Dogs will have their first training camp scrimmage at 5:30 pm on Sunday at the Big Dipper but there are some other things going on this weekend for sports.

The second to the last race in the Running Club North's Flint Hills Cup is tomorrow morning. The sixth annual Seekins Ford Golden Heart Trail Run starts at 9:30 am on the Birch Hill Recreation Area trails. For kids under 7 years old will have a 1 K race at 9:30. Youngster 8-14 will have a 2.5 K race at 9:40 and for those 15 and up there will be a 5K at 10 am. This race is also the season finale of the Flint Hills Youth Cup.

For high school football West Valley hosts the Palmer Moose tonight at 7 pm West Valley stadium in their home opener.

Lathrop is on the road against Nikiski tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock. Standout wide receiver Derrick O'Neal will be making his season debut after missing last week's game with a finger injury.

Back in the Interior the Eielson Ravens will host the Valdez Buccaneers at one tomorrow on Buck Nystrom Field. Then the Monroe Rams will suit up 12 players in their season opener tomorrow at 6 o'clock against the Seward Seahawks on Kiwanis Field behind the Big Dipper Ice Arena.

Lastly, up on the hill the Nanook volleyball team will have their alumni game at 4 pm tomorrow at the Patty Center as well.
