Soldiers donate over 12,000 items to Fairbanks Food Bank

The Thanksgiving Holiday is just around the corner and many will spend this week making their final preparations to get that large meal for families and friends ready.

For the Fairbanks Food Bank, this is their busiest time of year and today they received a donation from a familiar group of people.

Soldiers stationed at Fort Wainwright spent part of their day today donating nearly 13 thousand items of food to the Fairbanks Food Bank.

Ltc. Mick Braun with Brigade Troops Battalion said, “Fairbanks is such a great community and this is our way of giving back to them.”

This same group of soldiers donated thousands of items of food last year before the Holiday's as well. This year they made it a friendly competition and topped themselves.

With nearly 13,000 items of food donated, Chief Operating Officer of the Food Bank, Anne Weaver said it brought tears to her eyes and makes a huge dent in the near 8,000 they will serve on Wednesday alone.

If you'd like to donate to the Food Bank during the holidays or any time of year they are located off 26th Avenue and take donations yearlong.
