As the weekend approaches, many residents display various signs, advertising Garage sales, card shows, car washes, and other activities. Many of these signs displayed are in direct conflict with guidelines issued by the State of Alaska Department of Transportation.
DOT reminds residents that any signs attached to signs or poles, or signs that may impede traffic, could be confiscated and the owners could receive a 50 dollar fine.
The restrictions not only creates a safety hazard, but cost taxpayers in the long run.
Hannah Blankenship with the State of Alaska Department of Transportation says the sign create a lot of problems.
"So if there's signs left in out right of way or in the median, our crews are then tasked with taking that down and that creates a burden for taxpayers because we are already stretched thin.
So we just encourage folks to go ahead and find other ways to advertise."
