FAIRBANKS, AK -- Teil Diaz remains in critical condition and on life support in an Anchorage hospital after she was shot in the head Monday afternoon in West Fairbanks.
Meanwhile, family members of 18 year old Teil Diaz are voicing concerns that the incident was no accident as has been stated by investigators with the Alaska State Troopers.
Diaz is being treated at Alaska Native Medical Center.
Troopers say the incident reportedly occurred at a condominium on Fairbanks Street, and three other individuals were present when the shooting occurred.
Darlene Herbert, the young woman's aunt, spoke via telephone with Newscenter11 about Diaz's condition. "She's not in stable condition, she's still in critical condition and we're just going day by day," said Herbert. "They "paralyzed" her body because she was having too many tremors. Pinched her arm also, and there was reflex action, so that's a good sign."
But Herbert says she is concerned with the preliminary investigation by State Troopers, and their classifying the incident as "accidental in nature."
"This was no accident," said Herbert.
An investigation into the shooting continues. No arrests have been made at this time.
A fund has been set up in the name of Teil Diaz, according to family members. Those wishing to donate case do so at any Alaska USA Federal Credit Union branch under the name "Teil Diaz."
