Senator Lisa Murkowski signs bill aimed to avoid repeat of Government Shutdown

Senator Lisa Murkowski signed legislation to avoid future federal government shutdowns.

Murkowski’s office stated in a release that she signed  after talking with those Alaskans who were impacted by the recent shutdown.

Under the measure, existing funding would be extended for 120 days in case Congress fails to pass a funding bill for a new fiscal year; after the extension funding would be cut by 1 percent and reduce steadily by that level every 90 days until Congress reaches a plan.
