Senator Lisa Murkowski praises local Tiger Team, Strongly Opposes F-16 Relocation Plans

FAIRBANKS, Ak - Senator Lisa Murkowski met with the so–called Tiger Team today at the Fairbanks North Star Borough Chambers.

She emphasized her gratitude to the group and to the Interior community for their efforts to keep F–16 fighter jets at Eielson Air Force Base.

The Tiger Team is a collection of city and Borough officials and industry leaders who are whipping up support against a proposed Department of Defense plan to relocate the jets.

Members of the team and Senator Murkowski herself testified against the move during Environmental Impact Statement scoping meetings held earlier this month.

The senator is providing a way for residents to give testimony to the EIS process through her official website.

Murkowski says it's more and more evident the proposal is a mistake.

"It is a wrong–head approach," said Senator Murkowski. "We've been able to ascertain that there are no savings here and, in fact, the long term implications to the military and to, really, our readiness, it is jeopardized with this move."
