FAIRBANKS-The Alaska Nanooks hockey team had their season come to an end on Saturday night with a 5-4 loss to rival UAA. But UAF never quit as their mounted a late rally scoring three goals in the third period in a win or go home game three against the rival Seawolves.
UAA led 3-1 at the end of two periods. Halfway through the third Colton Parayko tied the game at 3-3 with a spinning back hand goal in the slot. Austin Coldwell would answer for UAA for a 4-3 lead with less than seven minutes remaining. Then Alex Hajdukovich gets his second goal of the game to tie it back up at four a-piece after some nice passing senior Michael Quinn and Garrick Perry.
But the Seawolves would have the final say as Brad Duwe scored the game winning goal at the 17:15 mark of the third, his second game winner of the series and UAA wins 5-4 ending the Nanooks season. With the win the Seawolves punched their ticket to the WCHA Final Five in Grand Rapids Michigan.
UAF seniors Michael Quinn, Colton Beck and Cody Kunyk finish their great careers with a combined 292 points in 423 games. UAF ends the year 18-15-4, 14-12-2 in the WCHA. Their 18 victories are the most in four years.
