School Board lawyer responds to request for arbitration by Superintendent

The Attorney representing the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District School Board responded to Superintendent Pete Lewis' lawyers yesterday.

Inside a written letter the board has asked for a pretermination hearing which it would not substitute for arbitration.

It continues to say without holding that hearing, the school board is not required to provide a more detailed and written explanation for the reason behind the Superintendent's recommended termination.

That the lawyer says, is what would be discussed during the hearing phase.

The letter further addresses claims that defamatory statements have been made about Lewis; the attorney stated the school board will continue to treat Mr. Lewis with fairness throughout the process.
