Sayre and Jackson win 28th Independence Day Run

FAIRBANKS, AK-There were beautiful conditions this morning for the 28th Annual Independence Day Run. The 5K run was at Pioneer Park as race participants were signing up, lining up, and warming up to get in a good run on the fourth as well as show they patriotism on the nation's birthday. The race went route started and finished at the southeast corner of Pioneer Park. Racers came down by the Carlson Center for the finish.

The top man was the ol' veteran Roger Sayre 55 years young completes the 5K in 17 minutes and 17 seconds. He was able to hold off Allison Jackson who was the top women's finisher and second overall finishing in 17 minutes and 38 seconds. The most Patriotic runner had to be John Mayer. Mayer ran the entire course while holding the American Flag.

Jackson is from Vancouver, B.C. and the Canadian is in Fairbanks for her first fourth of July. Sayre and Jackson pushed each other for the finish and Sayre gave props to Jackson but was happy to come out on top and represent the 50 and older crowd.
