Record setting day for dogs in IFDA July 4th Weight Pull

FAIRBANKS, AK-Today at Pioneer Park at about 1 o'clock beside the Civic Center was the season ending points event in the Interior Freight Dog Association's Annual July Fourth Pull.

This was my first encounter with dog weight pulling event and it was something to see as a great crowd looked on cheering for the pups pulling pounds on a record setting afternoon.

In the ultra light class the 8 year-old Husky, Shadow weighing 52 pounds won by pulling a new event record 1280 pounds in 32 seconds. Thor was second pulling the same weight in 52 seconds.

In the lightweight class 7 year old Mossy, a Husky Mix, weighing 86 pounds continued here dominance winning her third straight class title by pulling a new personal record and overall record 1760 pounds in 21.6 seconds. Mossy edged Tango in the points standings for the title.

The record of the day was in the middle weight class where a pure bred five year-old Rottweiler (my favorite kind of dog) by the name of Clyde set a new overall record for middle weights pulling 2360 pounds in 11.5 seconds. This feat was special for Ceaira Preutt because her friend passed away and Clyde was left to Pruett so he could continue to compete.
