FAIRBANKS- The Ranch Motel on South Cushman is closing after more than 45 years of serving residents and tourists. According to Manager Donna Gilbert, the motel has faced mounting challenges in recent years, including: fewer seasonal tourists, increased utility costs, and more crime. The plan to repave South Cushman next summer also influenced the decision to close the motel and Gilbert says it will likely be demolished. The original motel was built in less than two days in 1969; it was made from furnished double–wide trailers. Gilbert says she will stay in Fairbanks and continue to be active in the community.
