Prep runners get cross country exprience in two events

FAIRBANKS-Over the weekend some local runners got a preview of the high school cross country season at the West Valley Invite. Ffreshmen and upper classmen raced in a non points event at West Ridge and UAF to get taste for long distance running. Other runners ran in a timed competition this past Saturday. The Lathrop Malemutes participated in the Bartlett State Preview. The Lathrop girls placed third in the 12 team field.

Brooke Lizotte, a senior finished fifth overall with a 20 minute 3.9 second run to lead the Malemutes. Meagan Kubichek also had a top ten finish. Wasilla did when the girls division with 81 points followed by Grace Christian's 109 points. Lathrop tallied 111.
 
South won the boys division followed by Colony and Grace Chrisitian. Lathrop sent four runners to Batlett and did not qualify for boys team points.  However, freshman Logan Mowry finished 24th with a 18 minute 2.3 second run to pace the boys quadry.

This run could benefit the Malemutes. The course will be the same one for this year's state championship in October.

As far as the Interior cross country teams go all team are slated to be in action this Friday for an All Schools Meet at the Chena Lakes recreation area at 5 pm.
