Patriots have big showdown in football semifinals

FAIRBANKS-The North Pole Patriots, a second seeded Southeastern conference team, will take on the Soldotna Stars on Saturday in the medium schools division First National Bowl semifinal.

This was talked about in the preseason as a possible playoff matchup and this has the billing of the game of the day. North Pole is 8-1 and Sohi is 9-0. The Stars are the defending medium schools champions. Both teams are coming off first round blowouts. Soldotna won 65-19 over Houston and North Pole dispatched Ketchikan 55-6.

The Patriots bring in 19 all conference players and a senior laiden defense. Offensively they can beat with the ground game of Deaundre Campbell and Brady Crane or through the air with Garrett Sommer passing to Lance Wright and Shane Hursh to name a few.

The Stars are formidable and versatile. They're led by do it all quarterback Colton Young, sophomore running back Drew Gibbs is a baller and Tyler Howell is their top receiver.

These two talented teams clash at 4 o'clock on Saturday afternoon on Dimond Alumni Field in Anchorage. The winner will play the winner of the other semifinal at 1 o'clock between Juneau and Kenai.
