FAIRBANKS-The high school football season is already here. Well not quite but when preseason polls start coming out that means it's definitely coming up soon.

Here is the 2014 Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network's Large, Medium, and Small schools preseason poll. In the medium and small schools preseason poll some local love.

The North Pole Patriots out of the Southeastern Conference are ranked third which is where they finished last year. The Eielson Ravens of the Greatland Conference are ranked fourth and are a spot ahead of the defending small school state champion Nikiski Bulldogs.

The Soldotna Stars the 2013 medium schools state champs are ranked first followed by last year's runner up Juneau Douglas.

The defending Large School state champion West Anchorage Eagles get the top spot. South comes in at 2 with Dimond ranked third. Palmer a playoff team from the Railbelt is fourth and Service rounds out the top 5 for the large schools.

But this will all be settled on the field. This Friday and Saturday will be kickoff weekend for the 2014 Alaska High School Football season. I told you it would be soon.

The first game of the year is Friday night as the West Valley Wolfpack welcome the North Pole Patriots in a non-conference game. Kickoff is set for 7 pm.

Football continues on Saturday with three local teams in action. The Monroe Rams will face the Ketchikan Kings on Kiwanis Field behind the Big Dipper Ice Arena for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Eielson will have their first game of the season on the road visiting the Homer Mariners at 2 p.m. on Saturday as well.

Then the Lathrop Malemutes host the Bartlett Golden Bears at 7 p.m. on Saturday night at Lathrop Stadium for the night cap.
