Over a ton of drugs dropped off.

Alaskans turned in more than a ton of old prescription drugs during a recent statewide disposal event.

The state Department of Public Safety says more than 2 thousand,700 pounds of old meds were turned in last month at Fairbanks and 33 other collection sites across Alaska.

The DEA, State Troopers and other agencies hold disposal events every six months.

The effort is aimed at getting rid of old drugs that could be misused or abused.
