An OT thriller ends winning drought for Nanook hockey team

SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH.-Freshman Joey Davies did his best Garrick Perry impression by scoring the game winning goal in overtime as the Nanooks defeat the Lake Superior State Lakers 3-2 tonight.

The Nanooks (5-3-2, 2-2-0 WCHA) ended a four year losing streak at Lake State. The last time UAF won at Lake State was Nov 20, 2009. The ironic thing is that former Nanook Bryant Molle scored an overtime game winner in a 3-2 decision as well.

Freshman Marcus Basara scored for the Nooks as did senior Cody Kunyk. Kunyk is one point away from joining the 100 career point club. His power play opened the scoring for the game just under five minutes after the puck dropped.

John Keeney held of the Lakers with 27 big saves for the visitors.

Alex Globke scored the goal to force overtime for the Lakers with 1:24 left in regulation.

UAF heads in the bye with a huge win under their belt as they prepare for another road matchup. They play Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich. on Nov. 22.
