Lots of firemen, lots of fire trucks, but thankfully no fire at a popular restaurant franchise yesterday.
University Fire crews responded to the Geist Road McDonald's store, shortly after 2 pm for what was initially called in as a structure fire.
Shortly upon arrival, fire crews were told by restaurant staff that a soda machine unit in the back of the establishment was smoking and visible fire could be seen.
Further investigation revealed light smoke near the unit, crews unplugged the machine and checked the entire restaurant for further damage.
Fire officials commended the restaurant crew for remaining calm and for quickly escorting patrons to an evacuation point.
Assistant Fire Chief Ron Templeton says even though this situation was a minimal call, a large response is necessary.
