North Pole lands 9 on all-state team

FAIRBANKS-The medium schools all state football team was recently announced and North Pole was represented. On offense senior wideout Lance Wright was a first team pick. Wright will be going on to Rice University in Houston, Texas.

Junior tight end Shane Hursh also made the first team. Fellow junior and Southeastern Conference lineman of the year Andrew Risner was all-state first team.

For the second team you have senior guard Anthony Schwender, junior Kicker Garrett Wollmann and senior long snapper Ryland Ellis.

Making all-state first team defense were seniors Lane Bonham at outside linebacker, Jordan Copeland at defensive back and Ben Davis at defensive tackle.

North Pole assistant coach Mike Holett was named assistant coach of the year.

The Patriots finished 8-2 and went to medium schools state semifinal in their first year at the medium level.

Soldotna's Colton Young was offensive player of the year and teammate Jake Kooly was defensive player of the year.
