News Update: New details on Fairbanks Fugitive

FAIRBANKS - New details tonight in the case of a wanted Fairbanks man who has been identified as Julius "JT" Chambers.

He is described as a white male, 5 foot 5 inches tall, and wearing a black hoodie that says "keep calm and chive on."

Police were originally responding to a disturbance call when Chambers attempted to fight the officers who, with the help of bystanders, placed him under arrest.

Chambers, who was placed inside the police car, stole it driving nearly 70 miles per hour away from the area.

Afterwards, Police say he crashed the vehicle into a ditch and left the scene on foot.

Officials received multiple leads throughout the day that have led them to different areas where Chambers has been spotted.

This morning, he was reportedly seen near the Geist and Chena Pump Road area; Alaska State Troopers performed an aerial search but could not locate the fugitive.

Lt. Dan Welborn with the Fairbanks Police Department said, "We did get some recent reports saying that he was armed and dangerous. He was sighted possibly walking through a backyard with a garbage bag we heard, we didn't know if the garbage bag was being used for the rain, we've had a lot of rain recently, or to cover up the handcuffs because he could still be handcuffed from the arrest."

Fairbanks Police Officials also believe Chambers was involved in a vehicle theft a few days prior to this incident where he allegedly stole a truck from the Boys and Girls home.

The registered owner claimed the "Keep Calm and Chive On" shirt Chambers has been spotted wearing was inside the truck at the time it was stolen.
