The Richardson Highway was backed up this evening after multiple Troopers and armed U.S. Marshals pulled over a man on an outstanding felony warrant.
According to Alaska State Troopers Spokeswoman Beth Ipsen, the suspect, 31-year-old Carl Benson of Fairbanks, had a revoked probation for an original charge of misconduct involving a controlled substance and was believed to be armed and dangerous.
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was called by State Troopers to assist in the arrest after the suspect reportedly eluded apprehension.
Five members of the U.S. Marshal Task Force including a U.S. Deputy Marshal, Trooper, a Homeland Security Investigator, as well as an agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives initiated the traffic stop near the intersection of Steese Highway and Airport Way.
According to Troopers, Benson, a passenger in the Volkwagen car, was armed when the Task Force arrested him.
