News Alert: Tanana man fights banishment in Federal Court

FAIRBANKS- One of the two men that the Village of Tanana is seeking to banish after a double trooper slaying filed a petition yesterday in Federal Court.

Village of Tanana Resident William Walsh claims he was denied his constitutional rights by both the President of the village tribal council, Curtis Sommer, as well as the Tribal Council members themselves.

Walsh says he was banished May 14th without the ability to defend himself from the charges he faces, some of which would be dropped if Walsh completes community service.

The documents cite wording inside of the resolution filed by the tribal council, in which it states Walsh's political views were directly related to the highly publicized murders in the village.

The documents state that the Federal District Courts have jurisdiction over the village area, and seek relief for Walsh's "illegal removal from his property."
