North Star Volunteer Fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a North Pole residence Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to 2884 Freeman Road near Nordale Road just after 5 p.m.
Homeowners say they were awakened by the sound of their smoke alarm, and called 911.
Upon arrival, North Star officials say they found heavy flames across the front of the home extending through the roof.
North Star got mutual aid assistance from Fort Wainwright and Steese Fire Departments.
The couple and their four children escaped the burning structure unharmed.
The unidentified woman who owns the single-story home, with her husband, refused an on-camera interview with News Center 11, but did say the Red Cross was assisting them in finding
