Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced today that most Department of Defense civilian workers, who have been furloughed due to the Shutdown, would be ordered to return to work next week.
According to Hagel, although all civilians will not be included in this recall, the ones who will be asked to return are, “employees whose responsibilities contribute to the morale, well-being, capabilities and readiness of service members.”
With the categories listed as essential, Hagel plans to reduce the number of civilians furloughed, but did say he couldn’t eliminate the furloughs entirely.
Employees should expect to hear more information from their managers beginning this weekend.
