A new round of flooding alerts for Interior rivers

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN FAIRBANKS HAS ISSUED ANOTHER FLOOD WARNING FOR THE UPPER CHENA RIVER UNTIL 200 PM SATURDAY.

FROM 1 TO 1.5 INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN ACROSS THE BASIN, AND ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS AROUND 1 INCH ARE LIKELY THROUGH THIS MORNING.

THE UPPER CHENA RIVER WILL REACH BANKFULL LEVELS THIS EVENING AND FLOODING IS LIKELY LATE TONIGHT, WITH THE CREST REACHING THE MOOSE CREEK DAM BY FRIDAY.

PEOPLE ALONG THE UPPER CHENA RIVER SHOULD PREPARE FOR HIGH WATER AND FLOODING LIKELY APPROACHING LEVELS SEEN DURING THE FLOODING TWO WEEKS AGO.

WATER WILL INUNDATE MILE 36.9 CHENA HOT SPRINGS ROAD BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, AND IT MAY BECOME IMPASSABLE FOR SOME VEHICLES.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE(NWS) IS URGING PEOPLE TRAVELING ON OR NEAR THE UPPER CHENA RIVER TO MONITOR WATER LEVELS AND NOT CAMP OR PARK VEHICLES ON GRAVEL BARS BECAUSE THEY WILL BE FLOODED.

IN ADDITION, A FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING FOR THE TANANA RIVER.

HEAVY RAIN WILL CONTINUE TO FALL OVER PORTIONS OF THE TANANA BASIN THROUGH MID AFTERNOON TODAY.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS FROM 2 TO 5 INCHES HAVE OCCURRED WITH THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS EAST OF FAIRBANKS, WITH ANOTHER 0.5 TO 1.5 INCHES POSSIBLE TODAY.

THE TANANA RIVER WILL RISE TO BANKFULL OR POSSIBLY HIGHER BEGINNING TONIGHT. BOATERS AND PEOPLE NEAR THE TANANA RIVER ARE URGED TO MONITOR WATER LEVELS AND PREPARE FOR HIGH WATER.

NWS WARNS THAT THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP.
