New Leader at Alaska Command

ANCHORAGE, Alaska- Alaska Command will officially welcome a new commander tomorrow at Joint Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage. Lieutenant General Russell J. Handy will take over Alaska Command which oversees more than 22,000 service members in the state.

Handy’s last assignment was at Joint Base Pearl Harbor- Hickem. He served as the Pacific Air Forces’ director of operations, plans, programs and requirements.

He will replace Lieutenant General Stephen Hoog, who will move to the Pentegaon and serve as the Air Force assistant vice chief of staff and director of air staff.
