FAIRBANKS- Thanks to efforts by local caregivers and concerned citizens, Fairbanks will soon have a drop-in center for people with mental illness. The center will operate from the Fairbanks Community Mental Health Services building on South Cushman and will be staffed by volunteers. Gene Redden, a retired health- care professional, has lead the effort and will be the primary volunteer at the center. The space will offer games, TV, a light lunch, and a place to socialize. The center is set to open January 6th and will fill a void from September, caused by the closure of the Fairbanks Community Behavioral Health Center.
