FAIRBANKS, Ak-For the Nanook basketball teams, a win was hard to come by on the road as the women stay winless in conference play and the men's team couldn't bounce back after the UAA loss.
The women's team lost at St. Martin's 74-57.
SMU was hitting threes going 8 of 15 from beyond the arc as they led from tip off to final buzzer. The Nanooks continued to struggle offensively shooting in the low thirties and 5 of 23 from deep.
Angela Gelhar led SMU with 20 points. Jacqueline Lovato's 14 was a team high for the Nanooks.
UAF will go on to face Western Oregon next who has one conference win this year.
The men's team also fell on the road to Simon Fraser.
The Clan's 68-54 win over the Nanooks gave them their first conference win and ended their 9 game losing streak. The Clan hit on all cylinders, outrebounding the Nanooks by 12, got 43 points from the bench, and shot well from the field, the three, and the free throw line.
The Nanooks were up 28-19 in the first half but Simon Fraser 15-4 run and never trailed.
Andrew Kelly had 12 points and 7 boards to lead the Nanooks. Ibrahim Appiah's 16 points led 4 Simon Fraser players in double figures.
Now the Nanooks have to go into the belly of the beast and face the undefeated number two team in the nation-the Western Oregon Vikings.
