Nanooks winless in volleyball tournament

FAIRBANKS-It's a been slow one for the Nanook volleyball team. Over the weekend in the Flinth Hills Resources Alaska Nanook Classic UAF had to face 12th ranked Fresno Pacific in the last game of the tournament.

The Nanooks put up a valiant effort led by senior Keri Knight's season high 11 kills. Sam Harthun also added 10 kills and seven digs. UAF were good in the second set attacking just under 38 percent but the Sunbirds were on fire attacking at 50.

Fresno took this one 25-14, 25-18. 25-18 for the sweep despite an impressive rally by the Nooks in the final set. UAF is now 0-7. The Sunbirds had four players with at least 7 kills.

Humboldt State was the runner up in the tourney going 2-1, then Colorado Christian (1-2) and the Nanooks (0-3).

Sam Harthun was an all-tournament selection. Taylor Sturms was the MVP of the Classic setting a new kills record with 63 for Colorado Christian.
