Nanooks put up points in season opener

ANCHORAGE-The Alaska Nanooks executed what they did in their exhibition win over the University of British Columbia in their opener against Air Foce. The Nanooks scored quickly and scored a lot in their 6-1 win over Air Force.

Nolan Huysmans, the sophomore right winger, scored just 12 seconds into the game to give the Nanooks an early 1-0 lead. The goal led to three in the opening period for the Nanooks.

UAF only took 17 shots but they resulted in six scores. Alaska even scored a power play and short handed goal. The Air Force used all three goalies but the Nanooks got their way. The defense was good as well for Alaska as they killed seven penalties. John Keeney was in the pipes and registered 20 saves on 21 shots for the Nooks.

Cody Kunyk had the scoring touch with two goals. This was his ninth career multipoint performance. Newcomer and redshirt junior Jared Larson had a goal and an assist. Sophomore defenseman Colton Parayko added two assists as well.

The Nanooks face national runner up Quinnipiac today at 5:07 p.m for their second game of the Kendall Hockey Classic. The tenth ranked Bobcats lost after the UAF game 3-1 to UAA.
