FAIRBANKS-The Nanooks cross country teams could already be considered winners before they hit the trails for the NCAA West regionals this weekend.
Six runners on the men's team were named to the GNAC All-Academic team. The six selections for UAF were tops in the conference.
UAF's Michael Fehrenbach was the only runner in the GNAC with a 4.0 GPA. Isaac Lammers, Tux Seims, Max Olex, Kenneth Brewer and Ross MacDougall joined Fehrenback on the all-academic team.
Senior Alyson McPhetres was the only women's team representative for the Nanooks. She has a 3.9 GPA, one of eight in the conference with the grade point average. It's her third time making the all-academic team.
This weekend all of the fresmen women will run for UAF in the NCAA West Regionals in Spokane, Wash. The men's team will have seven runners.
Both teams will try to improve from last year where the men's team finished 16th out of 18 teams and the women's squad finished 20th out of 25 teams.
