FAIRBANKS, AK-Some Alaska Nanooks were recognized not just for their accomplishments on the field of play but the classroom. For the first time ever three Nanooks were selected to Academic All-America teams in the same year.
Sophomore Ryan Anderson of the Rifle team and Senior Lex Treinen of the men's skiing team were second team selections. Sophomore Alyson McPhetres was a third team selection for the women's team.
These three were Capital One Academic All-American Division II at Large Teams picks who were selected by the College SIDs of America.There have been 10 Nanooks named to Academic All-American teams since 1989.
Anderson has a 3.8 GPA and NRA First Team All-American in small bore and Second Team All-American in air rifle. Treinen earned a 3.7 GPA in undergrad and a 4.0 as a grad student and placed second in the 15 k freestyle in the NCAA Central Region Championships. Alyson McPhetres has a 3.9 GPA and was a NCAA qualifier after winning two regional titles in women's skiing and in cross country was a NCAA qualifier in 2011 and was All-Academic for the GNAC.
