FAIRBANKS, Ak-The Nanooks right the ship in the Carlson Center and force a do or die game three on Sunday to move on in the CCHA Playoffs. UAF had four different players score en route to a 4-1 over Michigan State.
Cody Kunyk put the home team up first with a short-handed goal at the 10:08 mark of the first period which was assisted by Tyler Morley. Jarrret Granberg scored a goal late in the first to double the lead for the Nanooks. Granberg's goal was assisted by Colton Parayko and Morley as well. And you know Andy Taranto was gooing to be in the box score some where. Taranto notched his team leading 15th goal of the year going around a Michigan State defender to make it 3-0 in the second period. Nolan Huysmans made this playoff contest a blowout with his power play goal which was a redirect off of teammate Trevor Campbell's shot.
It was early in the third before the Spartans took the shutout away from freshmen goalie John Keeney's 32 save night with a goal by Tanner Sorenson at 2:31 mark.
There was a lot of offense and excited chances from both teams as 68 shots were tallied. The Nanooks had the 35-33 advantage.
Game three is Sunday at 7:05 in the Carlson Center. The winner moves on to the second round.
