Nanook women's basketball team ends five game losing streak

FAIRBANKS-On Saturday the UAF women's basketball team snapped their five game losing streak in historic fashion. They're 86-66 romp over the Central Washinton Wildcats was their largest win in eight seasons over a GNAC foe.

The Wildcats only lead of the game was the first bucket of the contest by Ally Schmitt, her only points of the game. Alaska answered with a 14-0 run and would never trail.

Jordan Wilson and Brianna Kirk led five Nanook players who scored in double figures. Wilson scored 16 points in 19 minutes on 8-11 shooting. Kirk came off the bench and shot a white hot 6-7 from the field and finished with 14 points in 18 minutes. Ericka was a bright spot off the bench for Central leading them 13 points.

As a team UAF(9-10, 3-8 GNAC) was dominate inside outscoring the Wildcats 48-24. The Nooks also went 8-16 from three after going 14-30 from deep on Thursday night against Northwest Nazarene.

They're 20 point win over Central was the best since 74-50 decision over Western Oregon in 2005.

Ironically UAF will face Western Oregon this Thursday to start a three game road trop. After visiting the Wolves they'll play Saint Martin's and end the roadie against rival Anchorage on Feb. 15.
