Nanook swimmers start 2014 with a trio of wins

LA MIRADA, CALIF.-The UAF swim team won seven events en route to three wins in a quad meet at La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center. The Nanooks defeated Biola 149-88. Fresno Pacific fell to the Nanooks 155-119. Pomoza Pitzer came close but the Nanooks prevailed 142-137.

Victoria Adams, the freshman, led UAF with three event wins. Adams won the 100 and 200 backstroke (59.79 sec, 2:10.03)  while adding a win in the 200 IM (2:11:00). Fellow freshman Kathryn Pound finished first in the 500 freestyle (5:16:33).

Senior Bente Heller got a pair of wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle races (24.68 sec, 53.54). Margot Adams, the junior, won the 100 butterfly in 58.84 seconds.

In her debut, fresman Nga Nguyen came in second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.33

The relay team of Heller, Margot Adams, Danielle Lyons, and Eileen Audetter placed second in the 200 medlay relay with a time of 1:49.5 which was .37 out of first.

The Nanooks (5-2) go to Los Angeles this Wednesday to face some top competition. They'll be in the pool against Divison one Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount. Loyola Marymount defeated the Nanooks in the second home dual meet of the season for UAF back in Nov. 2013.
