MURRAY, KY-The UAF rifle team was seeking its 11th national title but that will have to wait until next year.
After day two of competition on Saturday at Murray State University the Nanooks took silver at the NCAA Championships. West Virginia gets back to back national titles.
The Mountaineers shots a 4705 in two days. UAF finished with 4677 to secured second. Kentucky got third but was just two points behind the Nooks. UAF shot 2356 in air which was third overall.
Junior Ryan Anderson took fourth place in air rifle and sophomore Tim Sherry is is the national smallbore champion. Sherry was named Ravn Alaska Nanook fo the week for the final week of the year as well. He's the first national smallbore champ since olympic gold medalist and UAF Jaime Beyrele Gray did it in 2006.
It's the sixth silver for UAF and their best finish since 2010 when they were also national runner-ups.
Next season UAF will host the 2015 National Rifle Championships in the EF Horton Rifle Range.
