FAIRBANKS, AK-Some of our local players will be leaving to continue their athletic and academic careers but others are coming to Fairbanks. The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team had two players sign national letters of intent to play for head coach Mick Durham.
Two six foot guards, Damon Cikanek out of Anchorage and Rashaad Allen from Fairfield California will be a part of the Nanooks.
Cikanek played for Dimond high school and in his senior season led the team in scoring with 19 per game and was a 4A All-State selection. He started as junior for Dimond when they won the state title.
Allen is junior college transfer from the College of Marin in Kentfield California. Allen was an All-Bay Valley Conference selection as a sophomore. In his freshmen season he averaged five points per game but this past season he averaged 12.4 points, three rebounds, and two steals per game. A sure sign of his growth as a player.
Even with the loss senior Dominique Brinson these two signees make the backcourt of UAF pretty deep with Pat Voeut at point guard and four other guards currently on the roster.
