FAIRBANKS- The Musher's Hall on Farmer's Loop Road will close for the winter. In a decision to save money, The Alaska Dog Musher's Association will turn off heat and electricity, the two big expenses, from October 1st to March 1st. The building was constructed in the 80s and the board president says, for nearly two decades rental revenues haven't paid the cost of the building. The Association's pull tab revenue also dropped 82% from last year, making it financially impossible to operate the building during the winter. They estimated, for the Musher's Hall to break even, they would need to triple the rental price and have reservations every three days.
