On Saturday the Mt. McKinley Bank Holiday Classic at Boileau (Boil–Lew) was in its final day.
The Monroe Lady Rams were in their final game against Nome and it didn't go the way they would've liked.
The Nanooks led 15 to 6 after the first quarter. But Monroe battled back in the second and third to go into the fourth quarter down by just four.
However Nome outscored the Rams 12–2 in the final quarter and win 40–26.
The Nanooks had three players in double figures including Shayla Johnson's game high 12 points. Devyn Johnson also added 10 points.
West Valley won the Mt. McKinley Bank Holiday Classic in girls basketball but lost their star player Hannah Mattson to a hand injury in a 40-37 loss to Colony. West Valley and Colony both had 2-1 records but West Valley allowed the fewest points overall for the tournament.
Unfortunately for the Wolfpack Mattson, who suffered a broken hand, will be out for the year.
The Monroe boys however continue their great play as they faced the Colony Knights in the final game of the tournament and were nice hosts until it came to the game.
The Rams put the hammer down.
Monroe started the game strong with a 17–8 first quarter on the Knights and won 47–32 for their third consecutive Mt. McKinley Bank title and their second straight tournament title.
Scooter Bynum had a game high 17 points and David Stepovich scored 16.
The Rams are now 11–1.
