More severe weather conditions in the Interior have led to dangerous driving conditions.
Subzero temperatures, icy road conditions, and dense ice fog have made travel hazardous on the Richardson Highway and in areas of Fairbanks this morning.
Warnings of caution were sent out via NIXLE by the Fairbanks Police Department and Fort Wainwright to let residents know of the danger.
Many motorists were driving in the fog with their headlights off despite the warnings, and multiple accidents have been reported.
Towing companies in the Interior also were very busy with some having up to 20 tows scheduled in a matter of 30 minutes and over 40 more waiting for help.
The National Weather Service said visibility was reduced to less than a quarter mile in many areas.
The subzero temperatures are said to continue into this evening.
