Monroe's Bobby Pace named coach of the year

FAIRBANKS-Over the weekend the Greatland conference awards were announced. Monroe's Bobby Pace was named Coach of the Year.

Pace led a Monroe team of just 11-15 players, mostly 13 during the season, to their first state title game appearance against Nikiski this season. The Rams won a share of the Greatland Conference regular season crown after defeating Nikiski 37-27 were the number one seed going into the playoffs courtesy of a coin flip.

Eielson's Tony Griffith was named Greatland Conference offensive player of the year amassing over 1,600 yards of offense and 25 touchdowns for the Ravens. Eielson's Keyan Kincade shared lineman of the year honors with Brandon Derifield of Valdez.

Here are the first team Greatland Conference recognitions. Nikiski's Luke Johnson was named player of the year for the Bulldogs.

For Monroe Micheal Neville is on the first team at tight end and interior defensive lineman. Tyler Wells was selected at quarterback. Scooter Bynum was a first teamer as a wide receiver, defensive back and return specialist. Alex Callahan was also first team as a defensive back, wideout and was all-conference at kicker.

Monroe's Grant Olsen made it at guard and outside linebacker. Dylan Gavora at fullback and middle linebacker was a first pick as was Peter Button at center.

Eielson was also represented on the first team with Ryan Crooks at tackle, Kalib Dunlap at defensive back and Jaheem Prioleau at outside linebacker.
