Monroe splits home games with Hutchison

FAIRBANKS-In high school hoops last night the Rams hosted the Hawks. Hutchison had a solid first quarter against the defending 3A champs.

Morgan John with a putback had eight to lead the Hawks and Emanuel Pachecho hit a three at the buzzer as the Hawks trailed 19-11.

Then the Rams went crazy in the second outscoring Hutchison 31-13. Monroe applied their pressure trap defense resulting in fast break points. The threes went down as well. Monroe's defense was stifling holding Hutchison to just 12 second half points.

Jalon McCullough, Scooter Bynum, and John Minder all scored 13 points for Monroe. Monroe wins this one 81-36.

There was another blowout in the girls game but the visitors were in control of this one.

The Hutchison Hawks went on 21-1 in the second quarter keyed by Kiana Edwards she had 13 points. Teammates Taylor Hasting and Elly Veazey both had 14 to lead Hutchison.

Majia Hajdukovicj paced the Rams with 8 points but it was all Hutch in this one they roll 64-22 over Monroe.

A tune up for the Hawks will travel up to Barrow for the Barrow Whaler Invitational that starts Thursday.
