FAIRBANKS, AK-Just like the other spring sports every game is an important because of the shortening of already a usually short season. Every games seems like a must win and Monroe was coming off a tough one run loss to Lathrop in their last outing.
The Rams were home last night at Growden field hosting the visiting Delta Junction Huskies.
Bottom of the third inning and Will Sexton goes centefield with the double and that's an rbi Monroe was up 13-2 going into the fourth inning. Already with a sizable lead and Monroe had the defense with a nice catch by their centerfielder Burke with the catch.
Delta would score but in the top of fifth and Will Sexton rips a double down the right baseline bringing home two Rams and in the bottom of the inning the Rams finish on a double play with Tyler Wells ending the game on the last out with a clothesline. No hard feelings and Harbison would be ok. Monroe rolls 17-4 over Delta.
"Delta is in a position where they can be a dangerous team; nothing to lose. We just wanted to jump out ahead and continue to keep that and we did that," Monroe head coach Dan Clark said."
Clark went on to talk about his team learning how to play with leads.
"We've had leads and we've lost the leads and we're able to hang on but I like to maintain those leads. And I tell these guys we need to win every single inning. Not just the game but every single inning," Clark said.
Recent Monroe grad and third baseman William Sexton feels his team is getting some chemistry despite losing a lot of players from last year's team. He wasn't sure if that would happen.
"I think we're coming together really well. Definitely better than I thought we would. We lost a lot of people last year but we really came back. We brought a lot of new upstarts out. It was a really good start to our season and we're really going to finish it strong I think," Sexton said.
