Wasilla, Ak-In the state hockey tournament this weekend it was bitter sweet for the interior teams. The bitter was for the 4A teams as West Valley was beaten by Dimond in the first round 7-1 and lost to Soldotna in their second game.
For the sweet, the Malemutes finished their season strong with a fourth place finish beating Soldotna three to zero.
The sweetest though, were the Monroe Catholic Rams who are the 3A Greatland state hockey champions.
It took some heart breaking losses in the title game the past two years but the Rams are finally on top after a three to zero shutout victory over Houston.
Nathaniel Brose was the game's MVP for his 22 saves.
Jacob Hebard, the senior nailed what would be the game winner in the second period assisted by fellow senior Carson Keys. Hebard finished with 2 goals and senior Kyle Coiley added a goal and an assist.
Congrats to the 3A Greatland Champion Monroe Rams.
