Monroe Catholic High School senior, and multi-sport standout Macala Fifield will no longer have the daunting task of worrying about where
she'll be taking her talents once she's done with high school.
With the stroke of a pen Monday morning, it's officially a done deal.
Fifield, who has dominated small schools competition in track and field, and cross country, on Monday signed a National Letter of Intent to attend
Carroll College, an NAIA institution located in Helena, Montana.
Fifield, who also played basketball for Monroe, will run track and cross country for the Saints beginning in the fall.
She signed her NLT during a lunchtime signing ceremony in the Monroe Catholic library Monday morning.
Fifield, who achieved numerous awards during her high school career, and who also was state champion in the 1,600 meter run as a sophomore, spurned bigger
institutions such as Division II Saint Martins, for what she called the "small school atmosphere" of Carroll.
"I love the small school feel that Monroe has," said Fifield. "That was huge in why I signed with Carroll. It was very important to me, plus I have family that lives nearby."
