Militia members sentenced

Lonnie Vernon, a two for one militia member, will serve nearly 26 years in federal prison after being convicted of conspiracy to commit murder and to amass weapons.

Karen Vernon will serve 12 years, with five years of supervised probation once she is released.

The vernons were sentenced today during  U.S. District Court hearings in Anchorage.

While Karen Vernon's hearing was a low key affair, it was quite different for that of her husband.

During proceedings, Lonnie Vernon denied the authority of the court, the judge and prosecutors.
Judge Robert Bryan told Vernon that he was (quote) "sorry his life had come to this."
Vernon responded he was sorry people like Bryan run the country.

Last year, the Vernon's pleaded guilty to planning to kill a federal judge and an I-R-S officer in a property tax dispute.
