Midnight Sun sports events highlight a big weekend in the Interior

FAIRBANKS, AK-The weekend of the summer solstice starts tomorrow which means the Midnight Sun Weekend is in less than 24 hours. Mike Shultz and I will be live at the 108th edition of the Midnight Sun Baseball Game. The Goldpanners will be facing the San Francisco Seals in the final game of the five game series. It marks the 54th time that the Goldpanners are hosting this historic game. The game starts at 10:30.

There will also be a 3 on 3 basketball tournament this Saturday as well at the Sports Authority. Third graders all the way up to 40 and older can play. That tournament will be in front of the Sports Authority and starts at 11 a.m.

And of course the biggie. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner 31st annual Midnight Sun Run produced this year by the Fairbanks Resource Agency is this Saturday night at 10 p.m. Thousands are expected to be on hand for this 10k which starts at the UAF Patty Center and ends inside Pioneer Park.

Last year's winners were Steve Chu of Eielson Air Force Base won the men's division in 32 minutes 28 seconds which was a new personal record for Chu.
Jessica Yeaton a Montana State University student from Anchorage won the women's crown in just over 40 minutes.

Also on hand for this weekend will be the Yukon 1000. The toughest river boat race in the world will start at Pike's Landing Saturday morning at 11 a.m. 13 boats will compete for the $15,000 dollar prize. The turnaround point this year will be in Kaltag.

The last reported prize for the halfway prize was five thousand dollars and growing. The drawing for starting positions is tomorrow at 6 at Pike's Landing.
