FAIRBANKS, AK-Today one of the familiar faces of the race wants a change of pace and has decided to retire. She wasn't a musher but was a key cog in the Yukon Quest.
Marti Steury, the eight year Executive Director of the Quest, has to decided to step down.
In a quote from YukonQuest.com Steury said,"this past year was the best race in recent history. Everything is on an up, so what a great time to incorporate new energy. Now that our foundation is solid again, it's time to expand and share this privilege with others."
Steury began as Executive Director in 1983, was a trail reportiner in 88, she has been a volunteer and race sponsor and came back as director in 2009. She still loves the race and will continue to follow and support as a fan.
