FAIRBANKS, Ak-Yesterday was day one of the Marriott Junior National Championships and team Alaska was in rare form.
First sophomore Max Donaldson, West Valley's skimeister, recorded the fastest time in the Junior 2 boys 5 K race. Donaldson's 13 minute and 30 second time was 17 seconds ahead of the next skier.
The endurance award goes to Logan Hanneman the sophomore Nanook skier. Hanneman won the Older Junior Men's 10 K race in 26 minutes 37 seconds-the second fastest time of the day. Hanneman did this just 24 hours removed from placing 25th in the NCAAs for the Nanooks in Vermont and a 14 hour trip back to Fairbanks. Hanneman was on the grind.
For the ladies Team Alaska swept spots one through three in the Older Junior division in the 5k race led by Stephanie Kirk's 15 minute 20 second first place time, followed by Sarah Freistone and Hannah Boyer.
